To keep LED strip lights working properly and extend their lifespan, follow these tips:
1. Use a Suitable Power Supply
Match Voltage: Ensure the power supply matches the LED strip's voltage (e.g., 12V or 24V).
Provide Enough Current: Use a power supply that can deliver at least 20% more current (amperage) than the total draw of the strip.
2. Avoid Overheating
Install on Metal or Aluminum Channels: These help dissipate heat.
Avoid Covering the Strips: Let air circulate around the strip.
3. Install Properly
Clean Surface Before Mounting: Use alcohol wipes to clean dust and oils.
Use the Right Adhesive or Clips: If the built-in adhesive is weak, use mounting clips or a stronger adhesive tape.
4. Use Dimmers and Controllers Appropriately
Only Use Compatible Dimmers: Mismatched dimmers can cause flickering or damage.
Avoid Rapid Switching: Give the strip a few seconds between on/off cycles.
5. Protect from Moisture
Use Waterproof Strips for Damp Areas: For kitchens, bathrooms, or outdoor areas, use IP65/IP67/IP68-rated strips.
Seal Connections: Use heat shrink tubing or silicone sealant to waterproof joints.
6. Avoid Long Continuous Runs
Observe Max Run Limits: Don’t exceed the maximum length per power input (usually 5 meters for 12V strips).
Use Amplifiers or Inject Power Midway: This prevents voltage drop and dimming.
7. Regular Inspection and Cleaning
Check for Loose Wires: Re-solder or secure any weak connections.
Keep Dust-Free: Wipe the strips and connections occasionally with a dry cloth.
